On The Front Lawn

The Front Lawn is a New Zealand band that was "big"... a while ago. I can't remember when I encountered them, but I do recall hearing two songs of theirs that I listened to and will now search on Youtube. (Can get the two compilation albums on iTunes.)

The first is Beautiful Things. A fun wee song, but one that I totally didn't get the full irony of until I saw this video. Extreme irony, so a new level I didn't get the first time.

The other is Walk Around the House, a nice song about someone walking around the house and taking simple pleasure from this basic activity and taking comfort from his family who is there sleeping... however, no youtube video for this that I can find (nor any other easily accessible version).

Good band, good songs.

Not my type of music but the video was an interesting take. I am curious to see if they did a video for "Walk Around the House" and if it took on a different tone to how you described it (something more akin to this comic http://www.channelate.com/2012/09/29/asterisk/ immediately sprang to mind after seeing the irony/dark comedy video you linked to)

You can find samples online (where the album Songs from the Front Lawn is available) that shows that Walk Around the House is a rather more low-key song, so I'm doubting it's as absurdist as Beautiful Things.

I really love Walk Around the House. It's one of four songs from their first album that I keep on the iPod (the others are Andy, Claude Rains and Tell Me What To Do)

Great countermelody at the end, too (bravo to Harry Sinclair on that one I think.) They came to our girls' high when I was in 7th form and some of us boys were lucky enough to do a workshop with them and some of the ladies. I was rubbish, but hey, it was the guy from Blam Blam Blam, so whatever! Five years later me and the band supported The Muttonbirds at a Dunedin gig in front of a rather large post-Bledsloe crowd of Scarfies. It went poorly for us, brilliantly for them and so we went backstage and stole their beer.

And that's my Front Lawn story.
